Sino-African win-win Policy under the One Belt One Road

Literature review: Sino-African win-win Policy under the One Belt One Road initiative: Who invests more wins more? ABSTRACT: Purpose – The main objective of this review is to assess thoroughly the Sino-African relations across time and now the newly introduced â€Å"One Belt One Road† (OBOR) initiative especially the contribution to academic literature. The focus is on the major events that marked the story of Africa since China developed an interest until the new OBOR initiative and the conclusion highlights the importance on the study by comparing and contrasting the different perspectives in previous literature. Approach – We considered an integrated and comprehensive literature based on a qualitative approach, we performed a content analysis of highly relevant and impactful papers. Findings – In this paper, we analyze usually controversial issues and express our viewpoints to conclude. However, the controversies remain a hot topic for further research works to be handled with different methodologies and new theoretical approach. Implicit assumptions may always exist in terms of a quantitative assessment of the benefits from the China-Africa relations. Major differences in narratives exist between Western and Southern stakeholders. Limitations and Implications – The conclusions from the work could be supported by additional research by considering a wider scope of the analysis. To give more clarifications to the empirical findings, more works needed to be done using quantitative data and qualitative evidence that extend beyond the usual economic and geographical limits as well as the socio-political limits. Value – This paper reviews decades of research on China in Africa and presents a snapshot of the recent OBOR initiative. It further draws attention to the necessity for subsequent literature to explore new methods of analysis for better understanding of the China-Africa relations and the role each part plays to the sustainability of this cooperation. Keywords: Africa, China, relationship, One Belt One Road.

Reflection on White Privilege

Reflective Analysis #2 Peddy McIntosh highlighted various unearned white privileges in her autobiographical article â€Å"White Privilege, Color and Crime: A Personal Account. † She illustrated the white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets that one white person could count on cashing in each day. White people have these privileges given to them by the society in which they live in. The same society taught them to be ignorant and unawareness of these privileges. This system of unearned privileges established by white individuals made people of color feel oppressed. In this system being white is a norm and dominant power. Caucasians, who benefit most from the white privilege system in the United States, are more likely to be blinded to the existence of privilege system and take these privileges for granted it. In this reflection analysis, I will elaborate on most common white privileges mentioned by Peddy McIntosh through my personal experiences. As Peddy McIntosh distinguishes white race has unearned advantages over the color race that white people don’t even realize. Caucasians have a special provision, passports, and visas that color people among the world don’t have. For example, individuals from third world don’t get tourist visas to travel around the world and discover new places as the white do. From my personal experience, individuals in India who wants to travel around or settle in a different country don’t have these privileges. Nevertheless, they are unable to achieve their ambition. These individuals don’t have these provisions and privileges because the entire system is established based on white individuals. They’ve granted greater advantage among the same skin color individuals while limiting and lesser advantage towards the color people. Peddy McIntosh made an identical point that United States’ claim to be a democracy in which value is only rewarded to white people. She mentioned white individuals are unaware of these privileges and they are in process of benefitting from the advantages of racism. Another privilege McIntosh classifies is being surrounded by white individuals company. It is easier for a white person to fit in any community because majority of the communities are dominated by their race. For example, if a white person moves in a new house, they are pretty sure greater parts of their neighbors are same race as them. When I moved in the United States many years back, I felt left out and it was difficult for me to fit in because I was a minority. I was mocked by mostly white students about the way I dressed and teased about being different from them. White students don’t encounter these problems when they transfer from one school to another because they figured majority of the students they’ll be surrounded by will be same skin color as them. Another difficulty I had was shopping at a supermarket was finding my cultural food. It won’t be difficult for a white person to fit in a community and find similar food to their culture. A person doesn’t realize these privileges until they image themselves in color individuals’ shoes. In conclusion, Peggy McIntosh pointed in her article, white privileges don’t come from an individual person or flaw of a person. White privileges arise from the flaw of the system placed in a society. Therefore, if we want to change the society and equalize the privilege amongst whites and colors, then change must happen within the system. It is the system that influences individuals to act upon in the society. A great way, we can demise these privileges among white individuals, is through educating the whites and making them aware of these unearned benefits and privileges.

To what extent does the word 'violence' have meaning shared across all Essay

To what extent does the word 'violence' have meaning shared across all human cultures - Essay Example Since looking at an intercultural perspective offers a broad image of violence, this paper will examine the definition and explanation of violence in sociology, since the uniqueness of societies and its norms are the ones initiating it and are also directly affected by it. Although it takes on different forms of which it is dependent on culture, the universality of violence would refer to the reaction of humans to deal with certain deprivation and as an act of fitting to the situation. Defining ‘Violence’ The World Health Organization (WHO) (n.d., p. 3) described violence as a â€Å"part of human experience† where â€Å"its impact can be seen in various forms, in all parts of the world.† The specified ‘human experience’ is already broad in its sense, but when referring to violence, it is mostly coming from negative perception. Through this definition, the World Health Organization agrees to the claim that ‘violence’ covers varied i ssues where the definition would surely undergo revisions; yet, all of which would be considered correct. The cultural view of violence depends on the specific ‘human experience’ and is entirely unique in one aspect or another, which makes the definition of violence more complex. Steger and Lind (1999, p. 24) improvised a way on defining violence without disregarding even one cultural background by categorizing it according to three disciplines where violence might have stemmed: Philosophical, Political and Sociological. A philosophical view of violence which is also called a â€Å"wide† definition is centered on structural violence. This has been expounded by Garver (n.d., cited in Steger & Lind, 1999, p. 24) wherein his definition of violence is about the unreciprocated needs of the society, or if there were alterations in the normal social process, specifically termed as ‘quiet violence.’ Quiet violence would exist if â€Å"people are deprived of choices in a systemic way by the very manner in which transactions normally take place† (Garver, n.d. cited in Steger & Lind, 1999, p. 24). Somehow, Garver’s definition is congruent to Galtung’s (1969, p. 169) assertion about what violence is. According to him, violence occurs when â€Å"the potential is higher than the actual is by definition avoidable and when it is avoidable.† In other words, violence, according to Galtung is when an action is entirely preventable and yet, no one is able to stop it from happening. A firm example posed is the case of a tuberculosis patient. Years ago, when tuberculosis inflicts death among people, the severity of the disease would not be considered violence since there were no effective medications available against it. However, if it has occurred now, such situation is considered violence because treatments for the said disease are available, and therefore, such deaths would have been preventable. In addition to Steger and Lind’s (1999) classification, sociological definition of violence might have to be the most overseen among the ones mentioned, since it deals with the acceptable and unacceptable types. In one way or another, sociological violence is politically driven especially when pertaining to the â€Å"illegal or illegitimate use of force† (Steger & Lind, 1999, p. 24). For example, the acts of the military men during war cannot be considered violence in this sense since they are permitted by the state to do so,

Role of Compromise in Delaying the Civil War Essay Example for Free

Role of Compromise in Delaying the Civil War Essay Most of the time, compromise helps stop a fight from starting and is generally a way to end a fight. However, the Civil War was only delayed by compromise because both sides didn’t want to give anything up. Compromise’s role in delaying the Civil War was keeping both the North and South happy, but it didn’t help. The Missouri Compromise was a good plan in theory. It made one state a slave state and another state free. It alternated between the two to keep it even. The Missouri Compromise made Missouri a slave state, and made Maine a free state. Eventually, they split slave states and free states along the 36-30 parallel, which divided the states into North and South. The North became free states and the South became the slave states. The Missouri Compromise helped keep things neat and even but split the states. The Compromise of 1850 was made to settle issues between North and South about territory and slavery that was caused by the Mexican-American War. There were five bills made. The first bill was that California was a free state. The second state was that Texas would be paid compensation by the government for giving California and New Mexico up. The third bill was that New Mexico was a new state without any specific prohibition of slavery. The fourth bill was that there would be no slave trade in Washington DC. The fifth bill was that if a slave ran away, people would have to chase after it no matter what. Even though this was a compromise, the North and South didn’t really like it that much. Texas especially didn’t like it because they lost a lot of territory. The Kansas-Nebraska Act created two new states, but they were voted upon using popular sovereignty. Rather than having them be free state and slave state by the Missouri Compromise, it was decided that the citizens would vote on it. This was known as popular sovereignty (voting on whether or not the state would be free or slave state), and people from the north and south came up to vote. This compromise wasn’t even that well planned, and was only made so a railroad could be put down. It lead to Bleeding Kansas where many people died due to differentiating options on slavery. The Missouri Compromise split the North and South on terms of slavery. The Compromise of 1850 caused Texas to give up property and get rid of slavery in Washington DC. The Kansas-Nebraska Act introduced popular sovereignty to the states, and also caused Bloody Kansas. From all of this, it’s easy to see that the compromises were supposed to keep the states happy, but it only lead to the states separating into North and South and fights breaking out.

ZARA SWOT and Competitor Analysis

ZARA SWOT and Competitor Analysis In this age of advanced media and technology, where customers are flooded with marketing messages all the time, it is very hard for the businesses to progress efficiently without marketing and especially internet marketing due to quick adoption of internet and use of computer and others related devices. With a nominal investment on the website and web based marketing, lots of new markets and customers can be attracted through this marketing technique. The retail industry is generally a very dynamic, fast changing sector. It constitutes one of the main sectors in the economy, in terms of transactions and turnover; as a result, it is a highly competitive and sophisticated industry. As Zara has an international presence in many countries of the World, it is now compulsory for Zara to adopt an online marketing strategy to compete with its competitors, capture and retain more market share and increase profits in this highly competitive environment where every customer is fully informed and equipped with information about the market. Digital marketing is very fast growing and cheap solution to reach maximum customers without any boundaries. Through customised digital marketing where you can convey your message only to potential customers and lots of new customers can be attracted by using different techniques. Todays economy is forcing everyone to search for the best deals they can find. Usually these deals are found on the internet. Digital marketing helps a company to increase its exposure to consumers who are actively seeking your product or service, making it much more effective than other forms of advertising. Increasing your companys exposure through digital marketing is the equivalent of McDonalds only showing you a Big Mac commercial when you are hungry It is targeted, effective, and relevant. Online marketing has many advantages for businesses as well as customers, but on the other hand there are some problems which are related to internet marketing and use of technology and its popularity among your target market. While using online marketing, you do not cut back your companys marketing budget during this economy; instead, focus on spending your marketing budget more effectively by investing in a highly targeted digital marketing campaign. In-fact, this is the best time for businesses to review their marketing strategies and bring internet marketing into focus because of increasing costs of marketing on traditional medias which do not guarantee that you are actually targeting your potential customers. Situation Analysis There are not many businesses which are running without any marketing in this age of communication and technology. If some business is doing good without marketing it dose not mean that the business has captured maximum market and there are no more opportunities to grow. If some business is already doing well, it can do better by launching a marketing campaign and can get more market share. If someone owns a business in todays marketplace, it is not easy to run a business without marketing and not enough to run an advertisement in the local newspaper to maximize the exposure of business. In fact, it is not even enough to run a television commercial on a local broadcasting station because the best marketing tools at anyones disposal have quickly become those associated with online marketing. In fact, if someone starts to explore marketing business via the internet he will quickly find that instead of reaching just a few consumers, he will now have the unique ability to reach both the millions of customers from a global approach and a more specified group of customers that are closer to him as well, a broader appeal than his business may have had previously. He can use social media as a marketplace, and also have a targeted market. Of course, before actually getting the benefits of a wider consumer base there is a need to attract them to the website which is where online marketing tools come into play. Products and services need to be presented in a clear and visually appealing way on the website. The website is a companys store on the internet, the products must be easy to find, priced properly for the market, and delivery methods clearly outlined. Adding a blog element to the website provides fresh content, photos, and innovations to customers, as well as satisfying the search engine criteria for active use and renewal. This also helps search engine placement. Other popular ways to help a business market its website include social media outlets like Facebook, Buzz and Twitter, link building and other search engine optimization tactics, or by using the Google tools like Google Local to increase the online exposure. With the help of all these tools and techniques, where we can promote our website through online marketing, there are some issues related to online presence. Online security is the main concern of the customers who are interested to buy online and want some sort of security that the information they are providing for transaction is safe and will not be misused in future. This matter can be resolved by getting some online security verification certificates and putting them on the website. Other online marketing concerns may be the annoying banner ads on the websites where you are advertising, viral marketing, too much information about the product on the main page which is not necessarily required by every customer, product search problems on the website. On the other hand before launching digital marketing campaign we should be very clear about our customers that do they use internet frequently and do they have proper training and skills to surf the internet easily. As far as Zara is concerned the main target market is people who like fashion and keep themselves updated with latest trends in clothing, so this type of people use internet very frequently to keep them update and interact with the community online most of the time. 2.1- Market Summary By keeping in view the current market trends and situation analysis our plan is to launch an online marketing campaign. Europe, America, Australia and Asia are our main target markets and there is an increasing trend of use of interne in the countries of these continents. We can see the growth rate of internet use and its penetration in last ten years in different regions of the world. With the help of these figures we can easily understand the importance and reach of internet marketing. Most of the market shareholders are now using internet marketing strategy and increasing their market share by giving information about the new products and designs, product offerings and offering buying online facility, business policies related to environment and customers through e-marketing. There are 383 million users of internet in China only and we can target them without spending lots of money on retails outlets all over China. Same is the case with Japan and India where we do not need to open stores in all the cities. We can open our stores in main cities and market our product through internet to other areas where we can find our customers and target them. This is the strategy adopted by most of the successful businesses like Clark, they do not keep all the stock on their out lets and promote their website by asking customers to use their website to see the full range of the products in different categories. 2.2 SWOT Analysis ZARA has 1,608 stores (including 213 ZARA kids stores) in 74 countries, with the companys international growth currently offsetting the economic downturn in the domestic Spanish market. ZARA has a very strong brand image and the number of outlets can be increased with the time and growth. Comparatively high product price is a weakness but we have opportunity to explore markets where we can find customers who want to buy high quality products. Entry of new competitors and non availability of sufficient raw material can be a threat in future. 2.2.1- (S)trengths ZARA has a very strong market Image due to quality, style and availability of products. Product/ Brand Image is also very high because of very high quality, reliable products for children, women and men. Strong financial position of ZARA is also our strength which will help us to invest adequately to get favorable results. Due to strong market position there is availability of finance from other financial institutions like banks. ZARA can benefit in saving the cost from existing infrastructure of suppliers. Vast network and store on different main locations all over the UK, Europe and other regions of the World is also our strength. At this time we have availability of suppliers who can provide us required raw material on good prices and we can build good relations with them for future when the competition will be higher. Online availability of our full catalogue is also our strength and customers can see, choose and make a final decision by just sitting home. 2.2.2- (W)eaknesses High product price is a weakness but we can not compromise on quality and customer services. Due to no marketing strategy and planning the rate of getting market share is very low. Proper management and implementation of the new system can take time. 2.2.3- (O)pportunities New market search is the next step after capturing our existing market we can go to US and central Asian markets more deeply. More innovation, improved quality and value added products for our customers. Adoption of new technology will help us to lower the cost of our products. Research and development department can be made more efficient and strong for product improvement and availability of the products. Improved and more focused customers service. Continuous training of the staff and labor for cost effective production. Strive to exceed the customers expectations through quality, innovation and customers services. Increase in promotional activities through online marketing to get maximum market share. Building relations and long term contracts with the suppliers will be beneficial for future buying. 2.2.4- (T)hreats Entry of new competitors is a threat for our product which can be avoided by building stronger product image in the mind of customer. Unavailability of sufficient raw material because of high number of customers for raw material in the market. In the near future there will be high price of raw material due to increased demand. Availability of raw material in future is another threat and can be managed by involving maximum number of suppliers in the beginning with small quantity orders to all the suppliers. Order quantity can be increased in future as per demand. Low buying power of the customers in existing markets is also a threat and can be managed by searching new markets. 2.3- Competition At this stage if we compare the top high street stores in the UK, most of them, i.e. John Lewis, New Look, Debenhams, MS, next, Bhs, HM, asos, peacocks and topshop are the main stores which are focusing on online presence and are among the top list stores on search engines in fashion and clothing search results. Because Zara is not in putting any effort for online marketing, that is why we do not find it in search results. John Lewis: The retailer has adopted Omniture SearchCenter to optimize paid search marketing.   This combination of products enabled John Lewis Direct to optimize customer preferences throughout the entire acquisition to conversion cycle. John Lewis Direct is a compelling example of a traditional retailer making a success of its online strategy. Millions of customers visit the award-winning John Lewis web site each month and the site has grown consistently at above market rates since its inception in 2001.   In 2008 online sales were up by 24% to  £327m. New Look: The famous and one of the favorite store of ladies for fashion clothing New Look has also understood and adopted the online marketing strategy by putting sponsored links on top search engines, using social websites for close contact with customers and launched their website in 2007. Since the eCommerce launch in December 2007, New Look website has continued to exceed expectations with nearly one million average weekly visitors in March 2009. This is a threefold increase on the same time last year, with average order value continuing to grow. The new web platform is giving customers increased access to the full product range and provides multi-channel capability, enabling customers to order in store for delivery at home. In March 2009 New Look acquired the www.newlook.com domain name and is appraising the potential to utilise this with a mainland European transactional website. This will provide marketing synergies with their international store roll-out to strengthen the brand and offer to customers. Debenhams: Debenhams is also promoting its website through search engine optimization, different blogs and social websites. Most popular websites are D Blog, Face Book, Twitter, Flicker and You Tube. Store is also encouraging Debenhams website visitors to visit these social websites and leave feedback. The Marketing Innovation Group (MIG) launched Debenhams Megaday iBrochure, in 2009, in conjunction with their September New Season Spectacular Sale. This tactical iBrochure mirrored the paper brochure that was available in store and was used to drive online sales and raise awareness. Marks and Spencer: MS has pioneered online video with MS TV (marksandspencer.com/tv), a great example of v-commerce in practice, and proof positive that compelling online video increases sales. Marks and Spencer is known for its innovative online approach, the retailer was keen to find ways of growing its online business while retaining the customers already visiting the site. In addition to enhancing the experience, the channel had to ultimately drive sales. MS TV is a collection of over 500 films divided into 12 channels. Each channel focuses on a particular company theme or business vertical, be it womenswear, menswear, or home. To maintain brand consistency, the channels are managed by a central commissioning team consisting of staff from both MS and Adjust Your Set. This team also plans future content and measures the consumer response. Engagement levels are constantly measured and regular refinements are made in order to improve the quality of the editorial and the rates of conversion. If viewers drop off before the end of video or certain links are not being clicked, then further changes are made. Keeping in view the above information Zara has a very big market to capture and this is the best time to develop and implement the new marketing strategy to enhance the market share in near future. 2.4- Product Offerings Zara offers an exclusive coordinated collection of stylish clothes, shoes and accessories for women. Collections for men, children and the home quickly followed. Zaras clothes are styled by the in-house design team to offer consistency of style, quality and value for money with a contemporary fashion edge. 2.5- Distribution Zara has a very strong network of retail stores in the UK, Europe, America, Asia, and Africa for the distribution of its products all over the World. Other than retail stores we have also introduced a fully functional website with our latest products, designs and offerings. The online store is also contributing successfully for the distribution of the products to the customers. 3.0 Marketing Strategy 3.1- Objectives Challenging but achievable objective has been set for next three years. Because of the overall condition of the economy which is not that good, result in the first year can be a bit slow. First-year Objective: In the first year we will maximize the awareness about the brand and availability of the product. We have already launched a page on facebook.com and more than 3,676,000 people like that page from all over the World. Website will be promoted through other major social networking websites, blogs, emails and in-store advertisement. Search engine optimization and data updating process will be performed more efficiently to keep the website at the top in search results on different search engines. Secure online selling will also be introduced in first year which will help to improve the growth rate. The growth rate will be increased from 6% of 2009 to 10% at the end of first year. Second-year Objective: In the second year we shall be doing well and will be on the first page of most popular search engines. In the second year more focus will be on introduction of innovative technology, make over and use of latest web technology to attract the visitors. The estimated growth rate in second year is expected to rise by 7% due to opening in new markets of Australia and Africa. Online selling will be offered to Australian customers in this year. Third-year Objective: Third year, 2012 2013, will be a year of revival for world economy, hopefully and we shall capture the market by 25%. For Europe aggressive marketing strategy will be adopted to get maximum market share. Online selling will be launched in major Asian countries to facilitate our valuable customers and to maximize market share. 3.2- Target Markets Target market of Zara is middle to high class men; woman and children who like to update themselves with latest fashion and style and want higher quality clothing on reasonable prices. With the help of online marketing it will be easier for Zara to convey information about new designs and fashion to its target markets in different parts of the World within no time because Zaras target market consists of the people who use internet frequently and update themselves with latest fashion. Zaras women collection is divided into three categories: Zara Women, Zara Basic and the sporty Trafaluc representing market segments for women who look for a more formal style, younger women for a more informal style and younger women and teenagers while menswear included Mens Line at Zara, Zara Basics, its club-wear brand 100Zara and Zara Sport. In this sense the general public from all age groups can be seen as potential customers targeted by specific sub-brands of Zara. A second important variable in defining segmentation is based on psychographic characteristics such as lifestyle, as one of the most famous and successful European brands Zara in its existing market targeted people who were especially interested in European styles at affordable price levels. 3.3- Positioning Zara is a high fashion concept offering apparel, footwear and accessories for women, men and children, from newborns to adults aged 45. Zara stores offer a unique blend of fashion, quality and price offered in attractive stores in prime locations on premier commercial streets and in main shopping centres. The in-house design and production capabilities enable us to offer fresh designs at out Zara stores twice a week throughout the year. 3.4- Marketing Mix 3.4.1- Product Zara has a tradition to launch its products in a short time of two weeks and full change in clothing item every month. The product is of very high quality and we will give a full guarantee of color, stitching, stuff, cloth quality and material used to our valuable customers. No metals shall be used for the product packing and recycled material will be used for packing of our products. 3.4.2- Pricing Zara maintained its long standing practice of providing customers with certainty over pricing. Zara has adopted a competitive pricing strategy to gain and retain customers. Competitive pricing is the most suitable for Zara because of its presence globally. This pricing strategy helps Zara to attract more customers on the high street fashion stores. 3.4.3- Distribution Zara has a very strong distribution setup which is very helpful to make available the product all over the retail chain. In my point of view Zara should start its production locally instead of producing in Spain and then deliver the products to stores all over the World because this change in strategy will help to reduce the cost of production. We do not need to bring raw material from other countries to Spain first and send finished items back to the same countries. By setting up local production houses we can also build good relationship with our suppliers, local community by offering jobs to local people, and our customers. 3.4.4- Marketing Communications Promotional activity at high street will continue aggressively and with in-store display, through online marketing and our website. For online marketing communication the first step is to update the website and its contents at the back of website like key words, key phrases and mata tags so that the search engines can find our website quickly and easily whenever anyone search for items we are dealing with. An interactive website is most appropriate idea in the current marketing situation. With the help of cookies we will gather lots of data about our customers and their preferences. Email marketing will also help us to generate more profit by attracting more customers to our website. As it is discussed earlier different social website pages like facebook, twitter, youtube, and flicker etc. are the main source of communication with customers these days. We will also communicate with our existing and potential customers by setting up different blogs and through our own website. Paid advertisements on most popular search engines like google, bing, yahoo, aol etc. is another option so that we can come at the top of search results in very short time. 3.5- Marketing Research Through different marketing research techniques like web analysis and online feed back from our valuable customers we will keep upgrading our product and system and will analyze and evaluate our existing strategy. Web analytical tools will also be helpful to get information about website visitors and their style of search and required products. Customers complaints and record of customer services department is also very helpful to improve the product and product delivery system. 4.0 Financial Matters In the first year by keeping the objective of 10% growth rate in view the projected sale for Zara in the first year is à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬11,750 million. Currently Zaras share in total group sale is 63.8% (2009). The total sale of the group in 2009 was à ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬11,084 Million. Results for the Year Ended January 2009: * Group revenues (in thousands of Euros): 11,083,514 * Group operating profit EBITDA (in thousands of Euros): 2,374,189 * Earnings per share (in Euro cents): 211.4 15 million is estimated expense for first year marketing including salaries of marketing staff. For online marketing, most of the work, like making profiles on different social websites, tagging, adding key words and meta tags on the back of website, can be done through qualified staff of the company who will be responsible for the updating and maintenance of the website. So, for that there is no need to pay extra money to any third party. To advertise through search engines we will pay a nominal amount per year to major search engines and they will promote our website. Pay per click is another option which is also offered by most of the websites where we advertise. 5.0 Controls 5.1- Implementation Zara as a market leader in fashion wear always focus on product quality and customer services. Our more than 92,000 staff members are always ready to improve the system and implement new strategies. With the help of internal and external controls the top management will be in a better position to evaluate the performance and upgrade the system accordingly. We are always in a process to improve our products and services and we are always open to hear from our customers. Zara already continues to improve customer service and with the introduction of new service of online shopping we are facilitating our customers to buy anytime with their convenience. 5.2- Marketing organization International Marketing Director GM Marketing for Rest of the Countries GM Marketing Europe UK Sr. Manager Marketing Manager Advertising Advertising Analyst Manager Promotion Promotion Analyst Manager Sales Market Research Analyst Manager Advertising Advertising Analyst Manager Promotion Promotion Analyst Manager Sales

SNCC :: essays research papers

SNCC The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, or SNCC, was created on the campus of Shaw University in Raleigh in April 1960. SNCC was created after a group of black college students from North Carolina A&T University refused to leave a Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina where they had been denied service. This sparked a wave of other sit-ins in college towns across the South. SNCC coordinated these sit-ins across the nation, supported their leaders, and publicized their activities. SNCC sought to affirm the philosophical or religious ideal of nonviolence as the foundation of their purpose. In the violently changing political climate of the 60’s, SNCC struggled to define its purpose as it fought white oppression. Out of SNCC came some of today's black leaders, such as former Washington, D.C. mayor Marion Barry, Congressman John Lewis and NAACP chairman Julian Bond. Together with hundreds of other students, they left a lasting impact on American h istory. John Lewis was an influential SNCC leader and is recognized by most as one of the important leaders of the civil rights movement as a whole. In 1961, Lewis joined SNCC in the Freedom Rides. Riders traveled the South challenging segregation at interstate bus terminals. In 1963, when Chuck McDew stepped down as SNCC chairman, Lewis was quickly elected to take over. Lewis' experience at that point was already widely respected--he had been arrested 24 times as a result of his activism. In 1963, Lewis helped plan and took part in the March on Washington. At the age of 23, he was a keynote speaker at the historic event. He stepped down from his position in 1966. Stokeley Carmichael, a fellow Freedom Rider, was elected chairman of SNCC and soon after raised the cry of "black power." Some were alarmed by the concept of black power and many were critical of Carmichael's new approach. In the summer of 1964, SNCC organized the Mississippi Summer Project, which was an urgent call to action for students in Mississippi to challenge and overcome the white racism of their state. The Mississippi Summer Project had three goals: registering voters, operating Freedom Schools, and organizing the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) precincts. SNCC organized Freedom Days where they gathered black people together to collectively try to register to vote and Freedom Schools where they taught children, many of who couldn't yet read or write, to stand up and demand their freedom.

The Internet :: essays research papers

The Internet, or ‘net, is a vast network of computers that connects many of the world's businesses, institutions, and individuals. The Internet is composed of many parts, including the World Wide Web, FTP, IRC, Newsgroups, Gopher, WAIS, Archie, and of course Electronic Mail (Email). The Internet is mainly used for communication. Email is the most heavily used resource of the Internet- over 40 million email messages are sent through the Internet a day. The second most used resource, called the World Wide Web, or WWW, consists of pages of words, images, sounds, and video. The Internet is continuing to grow at 40% a year, with about 20 million users, mainly in USA, Canada, and Australia, but still many all over the world. You can do many things on the Internet, such as shop for just about anything, bank and manage money, watch and listen to live cable televison and radio broadcasts, talk to other users with voice like a telephone, conduct international meetings, and access all kinds of information on any subject imaginable. As mentioned earlier, the WWW consists of pages and pages of text, images, sounds, and video. Unlike pages in a book, there is no maximum size for a page, and there is HyperText Links. If you click on any one of these links, the computer will automatically go to the page specified by the link. The WWW is programmed in a computer language called Hyper Text Markup Language, or HTML. Searching the Web can be a difficult thing to do, or if you use a search engine, it can be really easy. Since so many new web pages are added to the Web a day, a very good index is hard to keep, and an alphabetical listing of millions of web pages would be almost impossible to navigate through. To help this problem, people developed search engines that search the Web for you. Some search engines, like Yahoo, search in a big web directory they have made of hundreds of thousands of web pages, that is organized like a phonebook. Other search engines, like Alta Vista, or Magellan, search in a list of Web pages it has created as it surfed the web all by it's self. People usually access the Internet through a computer using a device called a modem. Modems connect people to the ‘net through telephone lines. Some companies, and the "heart" of the Internet, Use Fiber-Optic cables to connect. Fiber-Optic cabled are made of hair-thin strands of glass that carry information at the speed of light as pulses of light. Fiber-Optics are thousands of times faster than standard copper

Nutrition is the relationship of foods to the health of the human body . Proper nutrition means that you are receiving enough foods and supplements for the body to function at optimal capacity. Exercise helps tone and maintain muscle tissue and ensure that the body?s organs stay in good condition. Healthy eating without exercise will not result in good nutrition and a healthy body - neither will exercise without nutrition. The most important thing about exercise is that it be practiced regularly and that it be practiced in accompaniment with a healthy diet. Job Application

When applying for employment by mail a job application letter must accompany your resume. Often times an employer may be flooded by perhaps a stack of a hundred or more resumes on any given day. In such situations, getting an interview can represent a major break-through for the job applicant. The job application letter you write can and should be used to substitute for that all-important interview that you may not otherwise get, regardless of your qualifications. So, construct it wisely. Resumes at best part put forth only a rather simple table of data depicting your past work history and educational background for a potential employer's scrutiny. Lacking in a resume are many individual nuisances important to employers regarding the people they are about to add to their organization. Surveys of personnel directors of the five- hundred largest organizations show that the vast majority (over 80%) have agreed or strongly agree that they want to know: †¢ Your personality. What you are like and what you will be like as an employee? Why have you chosen to apply for employment with this particular company? †¢ What job are you specifically seeking? †¢ What makes you feel that your education or past experience relates to that job? †¢ Planning your job application letter: †¢ Think of your job application letter as being constructed of three parts: the introduction, body, and conclusion. The purpose of the introduction is to specify why you are writing and to say a few things about yourself, such as, where you are going to school and your major. The introduction gives you the opportunity to praise to the company for some specific quality it posses. This praise can serve to answer the silent question as to why you have chosen their company and also allows you to subtly display a personality technique that most people enjoy greatly, the ability to convey the feeling â€Å"I know you and I like you. † Caution though, praise must be specific because general praise has a tendency to sound insincere. The best line of praise should be to something in the company directly related to your line of work. Sometimes uncovering these facts can require a bit of research, please remember to learn the name and position of your intended reader. The body of your letter should be use to answer any questions your employer might have about how you feel that your education and background pertain to the job you are seeking. Here you want to draw connections from your past experiences and education to the specific skills required for the job you are seeking. †¢ In planning your letter's conclusion you must decide exactly how you intend to f ollow up your letter. Will you call within a specified period of time or will you await a telephone call or letter? You must bring the letter to a cordial but brief close. You must sound confident, yet never pushy. All ways ask for a follow-up interview. Remember, the letter you are sending along with your personal resume is your proverbial â€Å"foot in the door† with any would-be employer and often has to serve as your initial interview. Polish it carefully. Type job application XYZ Company 87 Delaware Road Hatfield, CA 08065 (909) 555-5555 george. Please look at them and bookmark it for later use: Overview of different types of employment letters As stated, there are many types of  job applications letters used in job search. Here are 9 of the most commonly used letters:- 1. Job application letter directly to an employer in response to an advertised position. see  Write winning job applications  . The most important aspect of this type of this job application letter that  sets it apart  from other types of employment letters, is that it  must address the employer's stated criteria as set down in the job advertisement. If you don't do this then you are wasting your time and the employer's time. This same type of letter, with a slight variation in the wording, also accompanies your resume when you send it to third parties who have advertised a position and will do the recruitment   on behalf of an employer   (below. )   So you need to read the advertisement carefully to ensure you know who is actually doing the recruitment. 2. job application letters to employment agencies / recruitment firms An application letter to a  third party who has advertised a position on behalf of an employer and will act on their behalf in the recruitment process. Here you must talk to the agency/firm and refer to the employer as the agency's â€Å"client†. It is the agency you must influence to get a job interview with them in order to be referred to their client – the employer. This job application letter is a bit more difficult and the standard must be very high. The letter must address all the criteria advertised, however the advertisement will probably only tell you the name of the industry where the job is, not the employer. It is still a job application sales letter and you must use all the techniques shown in  Applications Letter – Using Marketing Techniques. nd  Write A Winning   Application Letter. Often the company will not be identified at this stage, research is not possible. If you do get referred to the employer you will know the company's name so you must prepare for the interview and do your research. Find out all you can about them and see sections on how to perform at the interview and what you may expect from an interview –  Interview Tips  and  Interview Process and Questions. 3. Letter of interest to an employment agency / recruitment firm Here you want to register for any positions that may come up in the future. This is discussed further on as a  cold call letter. 4. Resume letter Used primarily for people returning to the workforce or where a resume is not effective or appropriate. For example, where there are lots of gaps in their employment. It sets out your job history briefly without dates and then responds to employer's needs – this is crucial. You need to use all letter writing sections to write your resume letter. Note: It is a combination of a resume and an application letter. It takes the place of a resume. 5. Career change letter This is the hardest type of job application letter. It is often used by the more mature jobseeker who has gained a new qualification. A resume letter may be appropriate in some cases. If the jobseeker has had more recent employment experience in another job they must be able to recognise their transferable skills. Your resume is very important. A good resume writer will spend a lot of time with you identifying how to tie your transferable skills into your new occupation. If you don't have a good resume it will be more difficult to write an effective job application letter. An example can be found in  Sample Job Application 6. Job Application Form You are more likely to use an application form when you apply to an job advertisement over the phone and are asked to fill in an application form at the time of interview. Another   example would be for when you apply for casual work or blue collar work. Used in employment agencies that deal with casual labour   (labour hire companies. ) Preparing an application form correctly and neatly, and on the spot, so to speak, requires :- †¢ A  knowledge of what the employer wants, †¢ good handwriting All the information you will need to fill out the form at your fingertips. If you industry uses application forms as the primary means of applying for the job you will need to develop some skills and knowledge to make the process easier. Application forms put you at a disadvantage:- †¢ They make you put in   employment history in chronological order that may be irrelevant to the job you are applyi ng for. †¢ You may not have the opportunity to show you main employment skills/history, especially if you have been doing casual work or working while studying. They do not provide an opportunity to target the job to your skills and experience. So take your resume and give it to them anyway. Note:  If you register with an employment agency you may be asked for your tax file number, especially if it is for temporary employment. The next group of letters are  prospecting or unsolicited letters  for  cold calling,  (or cold canvassing ) found through research or from leads found through  networking. The are still referred to as job application letters , but the content is very specific. Cold calling means contacting   prospective employers who have not advertised a job. The jobs may be available but they are in â€Å"the hidden job market  Ã¢â‚¬ as I am sure you are aware. That is, they have not been advertised for any number of reasons. Looking back on the  three questions to keep in mind; 1. Your target group is  the prospective employers  you identified in yourresearch  who employ people with your skills and qualifications. (Discussed at great length in  Cold Calling. ) 2. The purpose of the letter is to  obtain an interview for any future vacancies. 3. You need to make your purpose clear to the employer or contact.. Networking  is an even more effective job search method. However, job seekers tend to shy away from it. Nevertheless, it has been proven that job seekers want to know about cold calling, so if you feel you can learn skills to write a cold call job application letter, we fully recommend you also readNetworking for Success. It really is easy if you follow our proven method. Research shows networking is still extremely effective – in fact in a good job market it is most effective, especially in the IT and the mining industry, which has traditionally been an industry where people network. Some research goes as far as to say that over 85% of jobs are found through the networking). When you first contact people in your network by phone or letter you are not asking for a job. Rather your aim is to generate job leads. Once you get these leads you will then write a cold calling letter. 7. Cold calling job applications a. To an employment  agency or recruitment firm A letter of enqu iry to a recruitment/employment agency to register your interest in being referred to an employer for a job in your area of expertise. b. Direct to a company This type of prospecting letter requires you do a lot of research and you must demonstrate that you know what the company does and how you can fit into the organisation. You need to be very specific about the skills you can bring to the job and how you can contribute to growth of the company. Don't actually say how you can improve processes or outcomes, as this suggests that the company is not performing, but state clearly how such outcomes were achieved in past positions. 8. Networking letters You need two different types of   letters. 1. To a person in your network. Here you want to generate leads. Remember, you are not asking for a job, rather you are asking for advice. 2. You will probably then follow up with a letter of introduction to someone who has been referred to you through your network. This last letter is a cold call letter, but maybe referring to your source if appropriate. If you can do this (you need permission from the person who gave the lead), it is more effective. Writing these letters are quite different to any other job applications . Find out how to network effectively. Your first challenge is to get   your letter opened. Opening statements are very important. They start your letter with impact. Opening statements can be found, in  Write A Winning job applications  . A sample of each of these types of job applications   can be found in  Sample Job Applications Why you shouldn't use a one- fits- all job application letter By far the most common mistake job seekers make is to use  one fits all  job applications that they have copied from the internet or developed themselves as a generic letter and altered slightly. You will notice this company does not offer a generic job application letter (cover letter) service. Each letter you write must be personalised to that particular job and the company, which will require research. Even professionals with high level skills often want a generic application letter written when they order their resume. Most resume companies include these job applications   in their services. We don't, for all reasons stated in this section. There are excellent sample job applications   found on job search websites. However, most of these job application sample letters are directed at the â€Å"professional applicant†Ã‚   – especially for the high achiever or â€Å"would be† high achiever. Your job application letter is an example of your communication skills, so don't set yourself up to fail. Recruiters can spot a letter that has strung together from phrases from sample job application letters   and the sections you write will be entirely different. We see the same with resumes. Therefore, some application samples provided on this site are directed at the middle of the road job vacancies and skill level, and show you the process used, so you can develop your own letter writing skills. See  Sample job applications  . It is highly recommended that you read  Writing  Applications Using Marketing Techniques,  which shows you how to use effective content in your application letter. This section is invaluable and contains examples of   opening and closing statement examples and shows you how to ensure your job applications   use features and benefits. So no need to look for   â€Å"you beaut† sales pitches. The letter is strong on its own. As stated, what is common to all job applications is the need to sell yourself. It is easier to sell yourself if you have a professional background and harder if you are in ordinary white and blue collar occupations. However, no matter what level of job you are applying for you can still write  a job application letter using marketing techniques that catch the reader's attention, as long as you  address the employer's needs, and therefore their expectations. (Go to  Write A Winning Job Application Letter  to find out how to address the employer's needs). A good job application letter or employment letter, is useless if you do not have a resume that clearly backs up your claims in the letter. (exception career change letters. )   See  Resume Writing. If you want more guidance you should consider using letter writing software. Powerful opening statements and marketing phrases can be found  at  Amazing Cover Letters  Ã‚  You just need to address the employers needs, and this excellent software allows you, and encourages you, to do this. An â€Å"all in one package† that looks at occupations with a lot of competition and those with less,  that can be changed and personalised. Just ensure you actually find everything in the package as it has a lot of sections. If your resume is weak the best cover letter in the world will not get you a job. if you are not getting interviews  have your resume reviewed.

Four Teaching Strategies That Increase Curiosity in Math Essay

There ar m whatever(prenominal) strategies and techniques that could be exploitation upd in the ho exampleroom to go on curiosity in mathsematicss, besides the quadruplet I chose to deal I purview would be the most beneficial. This is due to the commission they support auditory, visual, and kinesthetic styles of erudition. The quatern strategies initiateers could c either to encourage curiosity towards mathematics in a sectionalizationroom take co-operative culture, command or discovery larn, simulate substantial life insures, and prompt educatee eruditeness. These four tuition strategies range from separate discipline to the wont of manipulatives to concrete life experiences and group discussions where students tail end shargon their ideas and thinking processes. Therefore, students would be able to learn in a variety of formats handle listing, seeing, pickings notes, and by using their hands. The first statement system mentioned is co-operative learnedness system. In which, students nominate implement think-pair-share, peer-tutoring, or group assignments to work unitedly to learn how to work mathematical equations. The propose of co-operative learning is that students female genital organ earn from t separatelying each separate, sharing ideas, and clarifying their testify thinking processes while working together in groups of two or more. For instance, instructors advise pull in worksheets or quizzes that are a bit more ch every last(predicate)enging than the students homework so the students depart acquire to work as a group to solve exclusively the puzzles. And, if they all get the same grade than they impart be more to likely authorise together, share their work, and ideas with each other to stumble the best grade possible.Additionally, since group assignments or activities are based on the need for students to compare their work and answers with one another, discuss the ways in which they solved a n equation, and reassert why their answer is right leave alone patron honor what they previously learned, thereby encouraging students to participate more in group activities and more inclined to enjoying math. The consequence teaching method scheme involves creating or simulating real life experiences that bequeath help teach a variety of math sciences. The theatrical role of creating real life experiences is to make math more relatable to students. It exit also debate how math is used in the familiarity and in their lives on a chance(a) basis. This leave alone give rise more engage in math, since students give comport a tangible sense of why math is needed. A unplayful example of this strategy includes role- wreaking or salient play. The goal is to defecate real life experiences in which students will need to use their math skills to solve every day problems. For instance, making play currency and having the students go to the market to purchase produce is one experience that is a necessity in life. The teacher can piddle the students make a list, create a work out and draw the students corrupt what they need within their budget. Then, they can even off a cashier and the cashier will thusly need to give backwards change. Given the age of the students, the teacher whitethorn not feed a dramatic center, but can then have students work in pairs at their desks. For example, each student creates their shopping list and budget buy their produce on paper, then take turns paying each other with different amounts of currency which the cashier will then need to give them change. The derive about role playing is it can be all imaginary or done in the class with few a materials, means that with some creativeness the teacher can recreate any type of real life experience the students may encounter. Some examples include acquire a house, paying utilities, buying a car, going to the movies and paying for the tickets and snacks. The third teachi ng strategy to create curiosity and accord toward mathematics in the classroom is to include guided discovery learning or hands on learning. Both types of strategies allows the students to use their hands in different ways, but one uses more guidance from the teacher while the other allows the students to discover the learning on their own. The purpose for both is that it allows the students to use hands on materials to discover something on their own thereby taking an slip concept and turning it into a concrete and tangible concept. Something the students can physically see, touch, and manipulate. For instance, if students are learning about geometry and the different non awardational shapes then the teacher can have the students create an art scene using wholly the shapes they will be learning about in geometry. A good example would be to have the students create a farm scene, in which the shapes represent objects found within our environs, like a rectangle for a tree, a square for barn, a triangle for the roof. If the teacher has the students label all their shapes and number of sides then it reinforces their learning of shapes.Plus, it will help them understand that geometric shapes are everywhere and used in umteen different ways in life. some other way a teacher can incorporate hands on learning is to have the students oven broil cookies, or pleat the dough and have the kitchen staff bake the cookies, if possible. Baking is an excellent way to reinforce the concept of fractions, doubling or halving a recipe, which also helps students understand how fractions can be added or subtracted. The fourth teaching strategy that can increase curiosity in math in the classroom is by creating a student refer learning environment. The purpose of a student centered learning environment is that it allows the students to participate in class discussions, where they listen and share their ideas or their thinking process when solving math equations. This also allow s the students to reflect on their own thinking or math skills learned, as well as, help clarify any misunderstanding or misconceptions about math. For instance, later on the introduction of a new skill in math, the teacher can have the students go up to the front of the class and work the problem on the board. This gives students an chance to show the class how they solved the problem and what they were thinking when they solved it. Plus, this creates an opening for the class to discuss what the student did that was right or wrong, and allows other students to ask questions. In addition, a student centered learning environment gives students the ability to participate in a safe and comfortable environment in which they can express their views, thoughts, ideas, and misconceptions about math thereby maybe encouraging a more positive outlook towards math. The benefit of using the four teaching methods preceding(prenominal) is that each method will help support visual, auditory, and k inesthetic styles of learning. Thereby, creating and providing a learning atmosphere that will support both multicultural students and students with exceptionalities. For instance, working in co-operative groups allows students to verbally share their ideas with each other and listen to each other, in addition to taking notes. Role playing also allows verbal interaction while using a tangible manipulative, like play currency.A hands-on learning project like baking cookies requires students to read the recipe, listen to their partners, and use their hands to measure out ingredients whereas, an active learning environment students can have discussions how architectures use math to build skyscrapers, or NASA scientists use it to build space ships. any of which have the ability to support all three learning styles. This is why I feel that these teaching strategies not only create a curiosity in math but support the learning of multicultural students and students with exceptionalities.

Angela Franklin Professor Ginfrida ENC1101 22 April 2013 Neat Vs. Sloppy In Suzanne Britts â€Å"Neat People Vs. Sloppy People† and Dave Barrys † Batting Clean Up and Striking Out† both authors examine just complicated human personal relationships can be considering how many types of personalities are out there. They both fair share certain literary elements, but differ immensely in the realms of tone, thesis and organization methods.Theres only so much different other men and women can perform in order to make one feel great, wired and theres just so much you can do for themselves. They both use these literary elements to create humor in their essays. Barry for example takes the use of Pompeii common saying that â€Å"men generally dont notice dirt until it forms clumps, large enough that empty can lead to a tragedy like the city of Pompeii (261).Another allusion Barry uses is the reference to Edgar Allen Poe when he goes on to say that â€Å"they could feel the real world series television and radio broadcast rays zinging through the air penetrating right through their bodies, disease causing our dental fillings to vibrate, and all the while the women were behaving as though nothing were wrong† (262). how This enhances his story with suspense.Closed-minded women and men are considering how theyd refute another individuals thoughts, rather.

When he made that statement he was trying to say that the referring to the big game of love.In the same manner Britt went on to say that â€Å"sloppy people live in what some may call â€Å"Never Never Land† (255). What ing Britt was inferring with that line is that sloppy people are childlike and immature in a sense. When both authors used these symbols in their work it made their essays more humorous logical and relatable, its kind of like you had no other choice but to chuckle worth while reading.Have the person that youre training repeat back what youve clarified. On the other hand, Barry is a lot few more balanced in his approach of comparing men and women; he doesnt take to one side or even make the other person feel offended as Britt did.He just states the different different priorities of men and women, Barry went on to say that â€Å"the opposite side of the dirt coin, of course is sports† (262). Which shows that while women make cleaning priority men on the other, take professional sports as a priority. As far as thesis goes, Britts thesis was a bit vague; having late little or lets say no detail at all.We The People Hemp is simple to purchase.

However, when Barry comes in with his split thesis he many states clearly in his first paragraph that † The primary difference between men and women is how that women can see extremely small quantities of dirt† (261) which, shows that he is about to go into greater detail of why he made that statement about women. Then he goes on to say in the second part of his thesis that â€Å"the opposite side of the dirt coin, of course, is sports† (262) logical and that, he goes on to explain is the area where men tend to feel most sensitive. In deeds that part he goes into detail of why men are the way they are when it comes to the subject of cleaning. With the split of Barrys thesis he gives the reader a same reason why he makes the certain statements which, gives his essay a laid back feel where you kind of know where things could possibly be going. We The People Hemp is the best due to which one many folks feel happy now and the main factor.Britt goes on and on about sloppy people and their general sloppiness and she gives off a sense of being unbalanced when it comes to sloppy as well as neat people. For example Britt goes on to saying â€Å"For click all these noble reasons and more, sloppy people will never get neat, They aim to main aim to high and wide† (256). Leaving it at that only to go into more male bashing of sloppy people. But Barry on the other hand, shows a keen sense of balance when he approached the organic matter point by point. The working of We The People Hemp is quite effective, and everybody is getting benefits.
